Freedam

Canva

The freedam app for Canva puts your library inside the Canva editor. Designers open it from the Apps sidebar, find the approved image or video, and place it in the design with a click or a drag - instead of downloading files from one tool and uploading them to the other.

What it does

The app shows your freedam workspace in a panel of the Canva editor. You browse it by collection, the way it is organised in freedam, or search the whole library at once, with suggestions as you type and corrections for likely typos. Images and Videos buttons narrow the results to one kind of asset.

To use an asset, click its tile to add it where Canva places new elements, or drag it onto the page to position it yourself. Canva uploads the file to the designer's own Canva media and adds it to the page. Images arrive as a 2048 pixel delivery rendition, videos as MP4, and several assets can be added in a row without waiting for the previous one.

How it works

In the Canva editor, open Apps, search for Freedam and open it. Canva shows its Connect screen; Connect opens freedam's sign-in page, where you sign in with your own account and approve the access. From then on the panel shows your workspace whenever you open the app.

Each designer connects their own freedam account, and the panel works with what that account is allowed to do. It lists the images and videos they can see in the library, and an asset they may view but not download cannot be added to a design. Nothing changes on the freedam side: no extra user is created, and permissions stay exactly as they are.

Good to know

  • Inserted files are copies. Updating an asset in freedam later does not change designs that already use it.
  • Only images and videos are offered. Documents, audio and other file types stay in freedam.
  • One workspace at a time. To work from another workspace, remove the app in Canva, open it again and connect to the other one.
  • Disconnecting is in Canva's app menu, under Remove from your apps. A connection can also be revoked from your settings in freedam.
  • Nothing to install on the freedam side. The app is published through Canva.

Step-by-step instructions and a walkthrough video are in the documentation. Working outside Canva? The Chrome extension brings the same library to any web page.
