Search by meaning with AI
Each search runs a keyword search and a meaning-based search at the same time and blends both into one ranked list. A search for celebration can return photos tagged fireworks or champagne. Put the query in quotes to get exact keyword matches only.
Keyword search
One search covers titles, filenames, descriptions, tags, collection names, AI captions, metadata values and text inside images and documents. Use quotes for a phrase, OR for alternatives, a date such as 2024-06, or a field search such as width >= 1920. A query Freedam cannot read is refused with a message.
Text in images
The AI analysis at upload reads the visible text in images, EPS files and single-page PDFs, in its original language. Keyword search includes that text, and an OCR Text filter searches it alone. Editors can see and correct the text on the asset's AI tab.
Visual similarity
Drop a reference image of up to 20 MB on the camera icon in the search bar to see the closest matches, each with a similarity score. The reference image is not added to the library. Each asset page also lists visually similar images and, for images, near-duplicates.
Color search
Freedam records the eight main colors of each image, plus a foreground and a background color. Pick a color on an asset's Technical tab and click Find similar colors, or add a Color Near rule with a hex value and a tolerance. Color rules combine with every other filter.
People searchBusiness
Faces in images are detected after upload and matched to the people already named in your workspace. Pick a person from the search bar to filter the gallery to their photos, or add two person rules to find photos of both. Editors name or correct faces on the asset's People tab.
Paste a list of IDs
Administrators turn on bulk paste for identifier fields such as SKU or product reference. Paste a spreadsheet column into the filter, or into the search bar when the field is a quick filter, and Freedam shows how many values matched. The values with no match download as a CSV file.
Quick filters
Administrators make vocabulary fields and identifier fields into quick filters and set their order. Each filter opens its values as a list with a count per value, or as a tree. Ticking several values widens the filter, and each further filter narrows the results.
Advanced queries
The rule builder covers text, dates, dimensions, colors, people, collections, ownership, rights, AI analysis and custom metadata. Set each group to ALL or ANY, combine groups, and nest them up to eight levels deep. The gallery updates after each rule, and quick filters edit the same rules.
Saved searches
A saved search keeps the search words, quick filters, advanced rules and their AND or OR logic under a name you choose. It does not keep the sort order or the selection. Saved searches are personal, follow you across devices, and each person can keep up to 50.
Suggestions and typo correction
From the first letter, a dropdown offers up to eight completions: words from your library, field names and list values. Choosing a list value filters the gallery on it. When a word finds few or no assets and a close spelling exists in your library, a Did you mean row offers it.
Ask in plain languageBusiness
Describe what you need, such as landscape photos with sunset colors from last month, and the assistant builds the filters, runs the search and shows the assets in its reply. Refine with follow-ups such as only the portrait ones, then open the filters in the gallery. Conversations are private.
Gallery display options
The Display panel sets the sort order, 24, 48 or 96 results per page, and which fields appear under each card or as list columns. Administrators can add metadata fields to the sort menu and set the defaults. Collapse identical files shows a file stored several times as one card.
Search settings for administrators
On the Search Configuration page, administrators include or exclude asset properties and metadata fields from keyword search and give each one a boost. They can also tune the balance between keyword and meaning-based results, reorder quick filters and rebuild the search index.
