Browsing the Catalogue
The new collections pages let you browse the catalogue through pictures. Each level has its own page. There is no tree to unfold: you click a tile, you go one level down, and the breadcrumb takes you back up or sideways.
Preview. The new collections pages are in preview next to the classic page. To switch, open Collections and click Try the new collections in the banner at the top. To return, click Back to the classic page in the same banner. Your choice is remembered. The classic page is described in Collections.
Switch between the new pages and the classic page
The banner sits at the top of every collections page.
- On the classic page it reads "A new way to browse collections is in preview" and offers Try the new collections.
- On the new pages it reads "You are previewing the new collections pages." and offers Back to the classic page.
The home page
The home page shows one shelf per collection type, for example Product or Campaign.
- Each shelf shows picture tiles for the top collections of the type, with the number of collections next to the type name.
- When a type holds more collections than the shelf shows, click See all [N] in [type] to open the full page of the type.
- Types that have no picture yet are listed under More, as plain rows. They never show as empty tiles.
- A type that your administrator switched off carries a Type inactive tag. You can still browse it.
The header of every collections page holds the Collections link back to this home page, the search box, and the control with your name that opens My collections.
One page per level
Click a tile to open the collection. What you see next depends on what the collection holds.
- It holds other collections: you get a new page of tiles, one per collection inside.
- It holds files: you get the collection page with its pictures, videos and documents.
- It holds both: the collections come first. A link such as Range files (108) jumps to the files further down.
A tile shows a picture, the name, and a count: the number of collections inside, or the number of files. The picture is the cover of the collection. Without a cover, it is the first image you may see inside. A Paused tag marks a collection that only its maker can see.
Levels with many collections
When a level holds more than a dozen collections, a Filter by name box appears above the tiles. Type a few letters to narrow the list.
The picker and colour variants
Some wide levels repeat the same first word many times, for example a long list of phone models. There, the tiles are replaced by a picker: small chips grouped by first word.
- Each group shows its first chips, then [N] more. Click it to see the whole group, and Show fewer to fold it back.
- Names that fit no group are listed under Other.
- The filter box works here too.
When the chip you click holds only the last level, for example the colours of one product, its collections open inline, right under the picker. You stay on the same page and can compare colours. Click a colour card to open its collection page. Save to sits beside the name of the chosen chip: it saves the images of all its colours at once (see My collections).
Collections named by year
When every name at a level is a year or a date, the level shows as a strip of chips, newest first.
Collections without pictures
A collection with no image you may see, anywhere inside it, is shown as a quiet row under Without images. It stays reachable. It just does not take the room of a tile.
The breadcrumb
The breadcrumb above the title shows where you are. It starts with Catalogue, or with My collections in your personal space.
Each step does two things:
- Click the name to go up to that level.
- Click the arrow next to the name to list what sits next to it, then jump sideways.
The list behind the arrow follows the same rules as the pages: thumbnails for a short list, a filter box and groups for a long one, newest first for years. Your current place is marked Current.
Sideways moves keep your place
Catalogues often repeat the same names under different parents: the same product under several ranges, the same colours under several products. When you jump sideways from deep inside, Freedam looks for the same names under the place you picked.
- If it finds them all, you land on the matching collection. A message tells you what was kept, for example "Switched to Summer range. Kept Floor lamp and Black."
- If it finds only part of them, you land on the deepest match. The message says what is missing there.
- If it finds nothing, you land on the collection you picked.
In the list behind the arrow, places that hold a full match come first, with a hint such as Keeps Floor lamp and Black. The others follow under No [name]. They are dimmed, and you can still open them.
On a narrow screen the breadcrumb shows the last two steps only.
Search collections
The search box in the header searches collection names across the whole catalogue.
- Click the box, or press / anywhere on the page to put the cursor in it.
- Type at least three letters. Suggestions appear under the box.
- Use the arrow keys and Enter to pick a suggestion, or press Enter to search for what you typed. Escape closes the suggestions.
The results page groups the collections by level name, for example all ranges, then all products. Each result shows its path after In, so you can tell apart two collections with the same name. Use the buttons above the results (All types, then one per collection type) to limit them to one type, and Clear to start again.
When a search finds a very large number of collections, only the first ones are listed. Add a word to narrow the search.
What you do not see
You only see the collections you are allowed to see.
- A collection you may not see looks exactly like one that does not exist.
- When a level above a collection is hidden from you, its name never shows in the breadcrumb. The collection appears at the top of its type instead.
- Another person's personal collections are never listed.
